Born and brought up in Haryana, Mallika Sherawat was called Reema Lambha at her birth. She started out as a small-time model and actress from Delhi, before she gained stardom in Bollywood.

Mallika Sherawat, who always dreamed of being an actress, has a degree in Philosophy from Miranda House, Delhi University. She was once married to Karan Singh Gill, a pilot for Jet Airways. The marriage lasted for a very short period.

Mallika's dare-bare role in Khwahish made people take notice of her. With no godfather in the film industry, Mallika survived 'a small-time actress making it big' troubles and even received a nomination for Best Actress at the 2004 Zee Cine Awards ceremony for her performance in Murder. The film (Murder), which was one of the biggest hits of 2004, gave Mallika plenty of reasons to enjoy her new-found status in Bollywood as the queen of bold movies.

Mallika Sherawat's decision of coming in films didn’t get any positive approvals from her family’s side. But Mallika stuck by her decision and now doesn’t need to prove why she was right in choosing a career of an actress. An actress made for news, Mallika continued her limelight status by bagging a small role in a Jackie Chan movie, The Myth, which immediately followed by a publicized appearance at the Cannes Film Festival to promote the film.
